How many people does it take to service a Lortone 33B?
I have no clue!
But I do know that it takes more than myself to do it as I think I put mine back together wrong.
I dismantled it this past week to replace the rods and pins/clips.
It was hell getting the clips off and I actually broke 2 of them.
Then I decided to clean up the first set of clips and use them with the new rods.
I broke 2 more clips trying to put the new rods back on.
Thank goodness I am not in the middle of 2 batches, instead of one.
As always Julie

yeh, mine need total overhauls sometimes.....replacing the motors isn't fun but doable. none of mine run anymore with the covers on, tho.....they get dirty fast that way, but they keep turning!

It only takes one person. This little trick might help. Remove the belt and driven pulley, loosen the drive pulley and slide it back against the motor and tighen just enough to hold it in place. Turn tumbler on end. Turn clips toward the top, opening toward the bottom. With a small screw driver or a hooked tool, pull the clip off, To install place clip next to rod with opening toward rod, raise rod up until the clip grove and clip line up, with blunt object push clip in place. I hope this will help.
I think there is a need for a tumbler repair man.
Have a blessed day. Blessed

Thanks for all the input!!
I will be ordering more parts (pins and such) from Shawn this weekend.
I currently have a replacement belt and I did put the brand new rods on.
Just do not want to run it with only 1 clip at each end of the rods.
Lortone makes a great tumbler. I have been running it now for about 9-10 months without servicing. With the exception of the ends being oiled with a smidge on each end.
As always Julie

The clips can be bought at any good hardware store. Some time called retainer rings or E lock clips. The size of the shaft is 5/16". How did you wear out a the rod? Mine only has one clip at each end of the rod.

Julie, The size of your unit determins the size of the retainer clips. The bigger units will have bigger shafts hence bigger clips. For what it's worth here's the clips and the tool that's used for them,,,,, aa-ok.com/retainer-clips-6-for-pivot-pin.htmlconnrock

I had problems the first time I overhauled mine too. Thought I would never get it back together, but finally did. Once you do it, it's liking riding a bike - ya' never forget! ;D ;D Seriously, it will be easier the next time! Yeah, those clips are a ******! I have never broken one, but every time I do a major over haul, one goes flying across the room and I have to send out a search party for it. I can't imagine that you need new barrel guides (rods)! Or are you talking about something else? Although, there is nothing else on a tumbler that I can think of that even resemble rods. My tumblers have run 24/7 off and on for 6+ years and the guides are still in good shape. Like, KD, I also run my tumblers without the covers. I use an old makeup brush to clean the dust off. A soft bristle paint brush will also work.

Llana2go, I agree with you about them /?>< *&^%@ clips. Keep extra so you don't to look. Julie wrote," to peplace the rods and pins/clips,-----------broke two clipc getting them off, and broke two puting them back on. The only rods I know are drive and idler shafts. Keep clean and oiled. Blessed

The shafts wear out if you run them with worn out bearings. At the risk of offending anyone, we called e-clips "Jesus clips" in my working days. Many times they go flying leaving you to ask "Jesus, where did that thing go?"

I can't imagine the bearings being worn out. Julie started tumbling about a year or so ago. I remember when she got her tumbler. I've had my tumblers 6+ years and have only had to replace the bearings on the really old one I bought used from a local guy. Guess I am just baffled that the bearings needed to be replaced so soon, esp. since I am sure Julie takes better care of her thumblers than I do mine. "Many times they go flying leaving you to ask "Jesus, where did that thing go?" Jesus clips. : My response has always been "Oh ****, where the hell did that thing go!"

There's an old timer who taught me how to keep from loosin them clips,,,
You gotta do it in a great big box so when the clip flys off it's right there in the box with ya!!
Of course ya gotta close the top and bring a flash light!!
If you take a set of small needle nose pliers and open them to fit the part of the clip that has to be pushed on,,pushing down and toward the direction the clip will come off on will release the clip.
Now if you keep a rag handy and put it between the tumbler and your lap(while sitting),set the pliers where you need them to push the lip and just befor you apply the force outward,,,drape the rag over to catch the clip.
You can do this toward you or away from you,,,which ever is more comfortable.
I kinda like the "sit in a big box" thing better though!!!!

Guys .... Thanks again!! Pheeeewwwwww
Blessed.... thank you for the measurements on these clips! ... I just could not seem to find that anywhere. There are always a few little things I just cannot get all the information on until you ask someone.
Llana ... OMG!!! too funny!! I still have (I was too embarrassed to say anything) 2 clips somewhere here in the living room carpet. Those little suckers really fly!!!! ;D
Con ... I did try using a pair of the needle nose and one other small plier. The needle nose for me really gave an extra lift to 1 of the clips and that is one clip that is still missing.
I am so glad that I am hearing it is not mandatory to use 2 clips at each end.
As for the rods .... the coating that is on the rods wears out gets dinged a little over time.
From my understanding, one of the important things to make sure of is that the rods are smooth.
Again ... as always .... Julie

You can rough up the shaft coverings when they get too smooth or replace them with braided hose when worn out.

I was cleaning out my junk drawer Sunday and guess what I found. Yep, one of those stinking little clips that flew off that I searched all over for and never found. We're talkin' about a serious flying clip here since the drawer is about 6' from where I always work on the tumblers!
