Last Saturday I met up with Larry (Gem 'n I) at Desert Gardens. We met at RTH Row, where Ralph, Mary Ann, Tony, Chris, Jamie and Rodney had set up shop. Those 3 spaces in a row prolly had the best selection of rough, slabs and cabs in the whole show. It was awesome! ;D Larry gave me some killer slabs of Flint Ridge Flint from his trip there this past year. Man this stuff is amazing. Thanks again Larry! I only thought to snap off one pic out there, here's Stonesthatrock, Gem 'N I and Desert Dweller that morning Thanks for looking!

Man, those are some awesome cuts all right. I'm real fond of those darker ones with all the banding but I don't believe I've seen any with as much deep red as those on the left. Those are very droolworthy indeed!....Mel

Yeah Mel the two on the left were from a discovery someone with a backhoe made 4 to 6 feet deep while Larry was out there. The colors are fantastic!

Not all Flint Ridge flint comes out that colorful. Since we have ground freeze that goes down 3 to 4 feet down, most flint above that will fracture with the freeze/thaw we have. The good stuff comes from 5 foot and down..it also shows more and better color. Most of the knappers and Indians were not concerned with color so they got a lot of their stuff from the surface material...many arrowheads made from this flint by the ancients was not very colorful...it is also difficult to determine interior colors since they change so drastically as the piece is slabbed. Glad you enjoyed it!! Larry

Brian that is some sweet lookin' flint. You have to get a piece cabbed and bring it out to Burro Creek so we can see it first hand.
