:help: My saw seems slow. Anyone know what speed I should expect when cutting something hard (inches/hour)? I'm cutting a small piece about 3.5 inches long X 2.5 inches tall and it is taking about 30 minutes to make a cut. Is this about right? I have the feed belt on the smallest pulley so that should be the fast feed. Knapper

Hmm , If I'm remembering correctly, I think with my old 20" HP I had two pulleys and used the largest for the slowest cut on hard rocks with a big cross section and I believe it was about 10 minutes per inch cutting speed so I'd say you're about right. For softer stuff like obsidian or travertine, I could use a smaller pulley and go down to 5 minutes per inch of cut. Speed also varied some with the thickness of the cut and the thicker the cut the more blade surface is bearing against the rock so that's where all the problems with dishing and binding in the cut occurred too. For these real thick cuts, you need the slowest cutting rate possible as your blade gets older and more round edged....Mel

Slow is always best for the blade. I never move my belt from slowest groove. I have 3061 things I could be doing while the saw is running. No wait. I sell blades. Run it fast, never use a dressing stick and oh yeah don't tighten the rock down either.

John, you are bad! The HP has a three step pulley on the feed.....slow, slower, and really slow for hard things like agate. Woody
