And we thought cabbing was addictive. ;D Up til now, Dennis and I have only used trim saws but now that we are all moved and settled in, he got the 10" slab saw going that I bought used a couple of years ago (but never got around to using). We have literally been cutting NON STOP for over a week. There's not enough hours in a day to get all of the rocks cut. We get bummed when we have to leave the house because that means no more cutting. We get bummed that we cant cut after 5 or 6 pm because we are trying to stay on our new neighbors "good" sides. You can tell there is slabbing happening on the back porch because the first paper towel on the roll has a few little rock snot smudges and the door knob on the back door is mysteriously a bit slippery from mineral oil. Currently, we are cutting Owyhee picture jasper and Graveyard Point agate from our first trip with Tony & Chris. OMG, wait til you see THOSE slabs. Gotta go now..........the saw just got quieter, another slab is done and I want to beat Dennis out the door and get it before he does. LOL Shannon PS-We've already decided one saw is just not enough. Time to get a motor for that 20" saw we got from catmandewe.

Ain't it the truth Cabbing, make stuff out of those is all fine and dandy but my biggest thrill is finding the rock and then cutting it open. Never know what surprises may be in there! I will die if my saw does. But it won't, right?

*L* Yep, aside from hunting rocks, slabbing is, for me, the most addictive part of the hobby. All those surprises waiting inside a plain looking old rock. It's like treasure hunting. If I didn't have to clean the saw so often, I'd be cutting all the time too...Mel

Next you'll have to share your system for organizing all them slabs. LOL. What do the girls think of it? Do they like it too?

Jo,
Morgan is 14 years old and is more worried about clothes and hair than rocks. Unless however, we are at a show where there are sparkly crystals and we're willing to hand her a little cash. After all, its a form of shopping right? LOL. Lillie is 11 and is the pebblepup of the family. She isnt really interested in the sawing part though, and prefers digging for them best. She doesnt really want to pick out rough from "OUR" pile but wants to find them herself. She will be going with us to Madras/Prineville this summer.

I cannot wait to see what you guys have been cutting. I'm with Mel...cutting has to be my favorite part. I just ordered me some new oil for the big saw....it's totally not cutting because of the dirty oil. Steve

Stopping at 5 or 6 pm! Wow! You are really considerate of your neighbors. I will cut until 10 pm with the garage door open then shut the door and cut until 12 am. between 12 and 6 am I won't cut but that's because I need to sleep.
Glad to hear you are having fun cutting. It will become more of addiction once your 20" saw is going.
