I'm new to tumbling: have my first batch in my Vibe-10. I started it in the furnace room for 4 days, but that's below the bed room so I moved it to the garage last night. This morning all seemed to be all right tough the cover seemed to be froze on( it was -7) out side this morning, ugh! So I took it back in side for a while & let it thaw out ( didn't want to pry too much on the cover) . Anyway inside rocks were fine but very cold. How cold can you operate a tumbler in safely?? I figured they would be fine because they were moving. Am I wrong ? I don't want to hurt the machine. Winter is still in WI Nancy

The only problem with tumbling in that temperature is that the rocks and slurry can turn into a chunk of lumpy gray ice. It's best to keep them in a warmer place. So, you got the replacement vibe? No more hot switch? You'll love this tumbler, especially after you gain some experience with it.

Yes got a replacement super fast from the company with a return tag for the other. They said it was a freak thing. New one is running great. I'll post photos when they come out.

Try putting a cardboard box over the unit. The heat of the motor should keep it above freezing and the cold should prevent the motor from overheating.

If the cardboard box doesn't do it, a cheap alternative is a large styrofoam cooler with lid. Cut a hole big enough for the cord, and stuff something in the "excess hole" if you need to.

look at construction sites in the dumpster for styrofoam if you can't find a cooler. Mcgyver the box together and the heat from the motor will keep it from freezing

Gotta love the English language. Only in English can the name of a fictional character become a verb ... Mcgyver

Much better to McGyver it than Mickey Mouse it.
