The first step is admitting it, reality. The next step is to buy more equipment to work the rock. ;D Welcome. Jo

the rock is royal imperial jasper. I already have 2 diamond grinders [started orig w/opal] 2 18" highland parks and a 24" hilquist that I try to keep running. also about 3,000 lbs of rough and 1200 lbs of slabs. as I cut I pick what I think to be the best 4 or 5 slabs out of each kind of rock then throw the rest into a box for my retirement. oh wait I am retired, you see last year I was tired, this year I'm REtired. here's oneof my latest cuttings, laguna lace Attachments:

Welcome - there is no cure, it is a spiral force that turns your head so you are looking at the ground and you end up picking up rocks and bringing them home and fondling them, cutting them, polishing them, wearing them and it goes around and around and around. Debby & Tom

Welcome to the group. And the way I figure it is there ARE way more addictions that are worse for you than rock hounding.

DB, you should fit right in, what you said is the norm around here.
The only problem any of us are dealing with is we all want more, always. Sneaking them home in our pockets, making excuses for the heavy flat raters that the post office delivers, working ebay rock auctions into our weekly budgets, posting signs on street corners, "Will work for rocks", ............Wait until you read some of the stories that are posted by the city dwellers, they have come up with some clever ways to rock hound.
Chipping rocks off of buildings in industrial areas after everyone has left for the day........That has got to be my all time favorite.

yes, its all part of being normal....... just look at catmandew. lol I have tons of rock and still look for more....... The worst is when we had to wait to be seated at a restraunant and i was sitting outside looking at their rock and thinking....." i wonder how that looks inside?" Ralph pulled me away......... lmao mary ann

Since this appears to have become an open arms acceptance of rockaholics, I will add that I recently pocketed several small rocks from the landscaped section of the courthouse in full view of the jail. Just Saturday I believe my dog was asking to be taken to the pound in the hopes that someone would adopt her who doesn't drive her to the desert to pick up glorified pieces of dirt, and I have managed to convince myself that if I drag home large enough boulders I can use them for landscaping.
Sure is nice to be among friends!

yes, those are apricots but the orchard is mostly peaches w/some plums, pears and a few early apples. it's in the banana belt of colorado @ 4800 ft elev. that's where I'm headed in a couple of weeks to prepare for frost season, not often we make it w/out heating the apricots and plums at least once. 1/2 box of cots last year the year before 2000 boxes, ain't no sure thing like a box of rocks is

Looks good. I used to have plums and peaches, just a few trees always fight the frost every year, and they are shortlived in my area, cotton root rot is a problem.Always like to see a nice orchard. Thanks for showing. Pics like these are bound to get a person in a springtime mood.

yeah sure is beautiful and I love peaches, which is why I started here. I've bought 2 houses in Ekalaka, Mt so this will be my last year @ the orchard, only sad part is, too cold for peaches. Planting 500 raspberries to start with though.

beautiful orchard. I felt your pain last year with the poor apricot crop. It's my favorite fruit and I couldn't find any to bottle. hopefully this year will be more productive! Wish I could afford some land to put trees on.

The photos of the scenery you are working in is breath-taking!
A heck of a lot of room for rocks, no doubt!
Do you have any current lapidary projects or are you "hunting and gathering" at the moment?

I have just finished trimming out approx. 90 lbs of blanks to work on this summer while I'm away from my slab saws. I'm going to take some pics of the blanks unfortunately until I can figure out why my pc won't recognize my camera now I'll have to wait to post the pics
