Well, I have tried and tried to get these to shine and finally got them to an acceptable point. Still haven't decided if I will take them back to prepolish and then polish again. I had tumble polished them in AO for 10 days and hardly any shine. I then cleaned them all up and tumble polished them in Cerium Oxide for 10 days and they were only slightly better. I then put all of the batches into the vibe with a higher grade of Cerium Oxide and used distilled water. (Started wondering if it was the well water here). I ran them longer than I normally do in the vibe. 7 days with about a 50% ratio of ceramic media added. There are a lot of preforms in here too. Some were stones from a lot of the folks here on the board. A cab preform that I had gotten from Jamie dessertdweller A whole platter of goodness Thank you for looking! Fran

Boy oh boy, I can't see one imperfection and the shine is great! But Fran, I hate to tell ya... some of the obsidian you used for your snowman last week still has snowflakes on them. Jo

Those look nice to me. I tried to rush a batch the same time Julie did hers, they came out with frosted edges.I've redone them for the past 3 weeks, about another week to go.Obsidian aint as easy other stuff.Anyway, like your batch.

Like that batch. Obsidian is tough (so I've heard). Really like the black triangle with the huge snowflake in it.

They look great. AO with obsidian does not work for me either. Have had much better luck with tin oxide. Hard to see how you could improve on your CO. Bob

I did an obsidian batch years ago and never was happy with the shine. Yours look a lot better! I really like the rainbow and mahogany.

That's a really nice looking batch of obsidian, Fran! I've gotten my best results on obsidian using M-5 polish that I bought off eBay, in the vibe along with a ton of ceramics and a mix of other stones.

I think they look quite good. I have had obsidian take as much as three weeks in a rotary tumbler (I've never polished obsidian in a vibe). For me, the AO from the Rock Shed works as well and CO. Obsidian is one thing I tumble that *really* needs a burnish phase.
I've read to not mix snowflake with other obsidian as the white part can cause small scratches but personally I've not had a problem.

Thanks Everyone! I hope Tom (tkreuger) noticed some that he had given me. That cab with the large snowflake but also has a touch of mahogany through it was from him. All the snowflake earrings are from a slab he sent also. About half of the tears were from Jamie (dessertdweller) along with a nice cab in the group. thanks again! Fran
