Jeri, these are really nice too. I especially like the 2nd one. It looks like there's lightening bolts running through it! It will make some stunning cabs for sure!

Thanks Nate. I don't cab, yet. The white lines were a nice surprise! Some of the slabettes have what look like fractures. We'll see how they tumble. (I don't really expect comments. I know my cuts aren't much, but I thought some cutting newbies like me might get something out of seeing the before and after pics.) Later, jeri

Jeri, those are nice. When I went there,I brought back mostly agate, and a couple similar to these. If I ever get back there, I'm gonna get my buckets outa there full of rocks when I first get there, instead of wasting my time and energy lookin' for diamonds. That walk uphill to the parking lot,I'm gettin' to old for that. If I have any beans left after that, then I'll find that big blue diamond. ;D

I like all of these very much Jerri:) Was it cold down in Arkansas? You want to go dig for some crystals in the next month or so?

Thanks Nate. I don't cab, yet. Later, jeri Sure, whatever you say LOL. I must have been hallucinating seeing that lap on your table, right next to the saw huh?!? Get that baby running! BTW, your cuts are just fine. As long as it gets to size for cabbing or tumbling, the cut doesn't matter. Nate

dbrealityrocks they're already in the tumbler. Can I still cab them later? If I ever get back there, I'm gonna get my buckets outa there full of rocks when I first get there... That walk uphill to the parking lot,I'm gettin' to old for that. Great strategy! I know what you mean about that hill! LOL I can't even lift a full 5 gal bucket much less carry it. I guess I could put a lid on and roll it up the hill. Was it cold down in Arkansas? You want to go dig for some crystals in the next month or so? The last time I was in Arkansas was April 2007 and it was quite chilly! These rocks have been sitting in a box ever since. We're going back in early August for a family reunion. My 15 yr old son has already said he wants to dig more crystal. It's gonna be hotter-n-Hades then, so we'll see. I'm going to the Woodward Ranch Blitz next month so I don't think I can squeeze in another trip. Maybe we can meet up in August? I must have been hallucinating seeing that lap on your table, right next to the saw huh?!? Get that baby running! Oh, is that what that blue machine is? LOL I just got it and I haven't a clue how to use it! I'm ridding it of rust before I deluge Jason/rockhound97058 with questions. Thanks Fran. I don't think anyone knows what they are, except maybe the guy in the info shack at the park. Later, jeri

no reason why you can't cab some later unless you tumble them all the way to dust. I traded some opal for tumbled pietersite yrs ago and cabbed some of them, others were shaped wrong for cabs

Oh snuffy! Those are some great lookin chunks & slabs! Who says every agate & jasper has to have a name?!?!? LOL Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna have to stop only looking at color and look at composition too. Now that I have a saw, I can bring home bigger chunks! :cheesy: ;D Um, don't tell my husband that. He usually gets to carry the buckets. dbrealityrocks I thought they could be cabbed later. Thanks for confirming that. Later, jeri

Jeri, the size of the chunks doesn't matter - a full bucket is a full bucket weather it has 3 or 30 rocks in it LOL!!!

Ah, but I wouldn't be happy with just 3! I never really looked at the bigger rocks so I ended up with fist size or smaller. If I go again, I'll probably bring home about the same NUMBER of rocks, just bigger ones. ;D LOL Later, jeri

Jeri: when I went to Crater of D I came home with lots of jasper. When you rub those smooth chunks in your hands for a few minutes it has a oily feel and your hands feel so smooth I think you could come up with a skin treatment . I tumbled some of the small ones and had some beauties black with gold streaks running through them, all different colors. The last time I went some people dug down about 6 ft. in the middle of the field and came out with huge amethyst clusters with some smokies mixed in with it . They wanted to sell some of those huge clusters to the rock shop there in Murfressburo but they didn't to pay anything for them and my budget was on a diet so I didn't offer to buy one but would have otherwise. I have been to COD about 7 times love the campgrounds there. Donna

Hello everbody,
When I go to the C O D mine I take smaller buckets and make more trips. It is not too bad that way. Brought home some nice jasper and agete.
If some of you are going to meet down there this August let us know. It is only a 3 to 4 hr drive for me.
Blessed

I really doubt I can talk the family into going to C.O.D. in August. It's pretty far out of our way. However, we will be making a stop to dig quartz near Hot Springs. We have to go right through there. Rather than start a new thread everytime I cut another COD rock, I'm just gonna keep updating this thread. Later, jeri
