can you start it by turning the belt while it is humming. If you remove the belt will it run?

I would think the motor is cooked. In anouther post you asked about a place to get a motor. I buy mine from PEARSON'S U.S. LAPIDARY AND JEWELERS SUPPLY, INC. They are $17.00,but in CA. I keep a extra one on hand just in case.
Hope you get back polishing soon.

If your motor just sits there and hums, you must have a Lortone. I have three rotaries that way right now *sigh*....Mel

It figures! I've had it with the constant breakdowns of my Lortones, even the newest ones. Heck, right out of the box I have had to totally readjust the whole unit a couple of times. I've got one UV-10 now with two bowls and I'm getting another which I'll use for fine grind. I'll use the big MJR for rough grinding and to heck with Lortones. Had one of their saws that sucked, one of their flat laps that lasted like one year before crapping out and all the new rotaries seem to go just over the warranty period before they die and I run mine with very light loads. IMHO Lortone really needs to address and improve their quality control....Mel

Hey, as big as we (RTH) are, why don't the collective "we" ask Lortone to come here and explain/defend themselves. It worked on another big forum I was a Mod on, as it solved several application problems we were having and created some much needed goodwill for the manufacturer. Perhaps someone from the board could email Lortone and ask them to logon for some discussions and give some advice.

Hi there!! For me, when the motor hummed on my Lortone 33B and the rods were not turning, that's when I dismantled the tumbler, replaced the rods & clips and put little drops of 2-1 on the ends. So far, in some practice runs for about 10-15 minutes without barrels the rods kept turning and the humming stopped. Tonight I will see if it still runs smoothly with barrels (I have some carnelian I really want to play with). Happy Hummer! As always!

I ordered a motor for it. There was no turning at all and it was hard to turn it by hand.
