It is a low cost and great prepolish. Does particle size make a difference?

I've always heard tripoli prepolish is 800-1000 grit size but there are finer grades available....Mel

Tripoli works great, costs little, and even polishes some rock.

when i first started tumblin i seen it listed as a polish sometime -- so it has to be pretty fine or it breaks down pretty fast but i used up what i had as a pre polish had no complaints -- then i got a few bags from rockshed of 1000 ao to use as pre polish when that runs out id buy eather again -- but since they list 1000 ao as a uniform grit id prob lean that way for a good even pre polish

Thanks !! i think i'll stay with 1000 AO --paul

We've used nothing but tripoli for tumbling polish for several years, and I throw in pieces of leather cut in about 1 1/2" pieces maybe 20% of volume. Have been complimented on our finish quality by a couple who have been doing rocks since the late 1940's, they know their stuff; that made us feel prety good.
