;D hopefully not sounding too newbie AGAIN but hoping maybe someone would know some more info !!! I was reading some really old posts on making preforms and shapes like hearts and crosses using a cheap tile saw . Well this is what I would like to do sooner or later and take a try at it myself . My questions are when I am done making the preforms and I know this probably sounds really dumb but Do I have to use a vibe??? or is there anyways to use a rotary ?? I have a feeling I will be buying a new vibe as well. Also what else can be done with the tile saw in rock cutting??? and what do you think I should use as maximum cut thicknesses when working with rock ? Thanks Again Guys Greg

A vibe will best preserve the shape of your preforms. The flat surfaces will stay flat, and the edges will take on a smooth radius curve. You can use a rotary, but add your preforms to a "balanced load" and use extra plastic pellets for cushion. Avoid the urge to stuff an entire load of preforms into your rotary. Your preforms may loose a little shape around their edges in a rotary, but don't let this stop you from experimenting. If your not happy with the rotary, it sounds like you will have a vibe eventually. WARNING If you buy a vibe, you will soon have to buy more rotrary tumblers to feed it!
Many "cabbers" slice in the range of 1/4" down to 3/16" for typical jewery work. I tend towards 5/16" to give a little extra thickness on the edge because I drill my pendants, for now.
