Dear all, I have not posted the final result of my first batch of blue chalcedons beacuse I was not satisfied with the result , will post the result of the next batch, I expect the result to be better. I searched through the search machine of this site but have not found answer to my question - can the same grit be used again after straining it with a special strainer?

Yes but you need to decant the water off the top let what settles out dry out reuse as same grit that it started as.Some will say if you have any 60 /90 left you may need to run your rough grind stage longer I do not worry about that too much as i save my rough grind slurry so as to jump start my rough grind slurry for future batches. Here is a link to how to do it. Look for "Make Your Own Elutriator to Recover Tumbling Grit" a ways down the page. tomaszewski.net/Kreigh/Minerals/Homemade.shtmlThis will work but grit isn't that expensive and its a pretty big job.

If you are using a rotory, you should be tumbling long enough for the grit to completely break down before recharging. I usually check mine after 10 days or so, and the amount of remaining grit is minimal at best, if present at all. One thing I do is rinse the rocks a bit still in the tumbler barrel, and swish it around (like panning for gold). This allows any remaining grit to settle to the bottom of the barrel. I just leave it in there for the next round of tumbling ( I use my rotory only for the coarse grind, I do all the other grits in a vibe.). Trying to salvage grit IMO would be much more of a headache than it's worth.

I agree. I only reuse polish.

I agree also. New grit=faster grinding.
