Yep it is official. Went out today to order some grit from the Rock Shed. Before I know it I am on the crushed rock page and the total just keeps going up. Now I am going to get a box with a little bit of grit and a lot of rocks in it.
Was thinking about needing a twelve step program but figure I will stick with my four step program. Course, medium, pre-polish and polish. Who would want to add any more steps in there. Now just to figure out just what I am going to do with all this polished rock that I am starting to accumulate.
Oh well I got more rock on the way and tomorrow will be getting my latest batch out of the polish so life is good.

*L* I'm afraid I'm a member of that club too. Last time I ordered something from the Rockshed, somehow some of that dark Indian amethyst just seemed to sneak onto the order form. Something a little extra seems to sneak onto that dang form every time I fill one out. *L*. That dark ammy is pretty darn sweet stuff too...Mel

What is a man to do when they put a link to the rough right there on the grit page. I am doomed. Now I can't wait til the rocks come in the mail. At least no once can say I have lost my rocks. Because I have all kinds I can show em.

You are not truly addicted until you try everything that the Rock Shed offers and check each day in case they get something new in. Welcome.
Darryl.

Dang Darryl, you made a 100 on that reply. I thought I was the only one that did that. Get a pound of each rock they carry to see if you like it ,then order 3 lbs of each so you can have a batch of the same material.then order 5 lbs cause its a little cheaper, order each new one and more to justify shipping, need I say more? I've only done this for 2 years, though, I aint addicted yet. ;D ;D

Oh,I almost forgot, after you raid the rocksheds stock, frbs are next in line,as you check the buy and sell section and start buying in 25 lb quantities. Then you look around and see 15-20 empty frb boxes sittin' around. Almost like when I sold $50 worth of aluminum beer cans, felt good till I figured what they cost me full. ;D ;D. But like I say,I aint addicted yet.

Whateryagonnadowithallthoserocks? We've certainly all heard it. Two solutions we do is to "pave" the bottoms of display cases at home with tumbled rocks, and we build indoor fountains in 16" black plastic tubs available at farm supply stores. The fountains are fun, you get to let your imagination go nuts. We have found some commercially made fountains for as little as a quarter at garage sales, used the pumps for our purpose.

LOL...I feel you! I collect pretty much all my own rough and have a serious problem. I'm sitting on at least 250lbs of rough at the moment and simply don't have enough tumblers to even begin to deal with it! So what's my solution? Cut back? Heck no. Like other addicts around here...I start to plan on building my own tumbler. I see these massive 100lb+ tumblers on here and I just hope that I don't end up there!
Even with enough being enough, I still want to spend every nice weekend out on a stream, river, or hillside...wandering about to find more beauties! My girlfriend thinks I'm a bit crazy...but the "Oh, wow's!" keep coming and she still enjoys helping me out with the hunt.
Lemmeno when someone figures out how to become filthy rich with this hobby...because I'll jump on that bandwagon!

Nobody gets rich doing this hobby, but we do get instant gratification anytime someone pays a couple dollars for something that we make, and when we sell enough, most of us take the money and either purchase more rock equipment or more rocks. If you want to make money with a rock tumbler, purchase a cheap tile saw to cut some pendants. I sell tumble-pendants for $5 each at the craft shows. My average is around 100 pendants for a one day show.

Yep my addiction continues. Got in 20 lbs of rough rock the same day I order 40 more lbs from two other places. Now I am going to have all this rock and just two 33b's to tumble it with. Next thing I will be wanting to get a bigger tumbler. Well I already want that maybe I am just trying to justify it. You know how addictions go.

Hahaha...you WILL want a bigger one eventually. Especially if you go out collecting your own. Those 3lbers are fairly limiting...and you'll handle rough much more efficiently with a larger barrel.
Had I known about this place when I bought my Lortone QT66, I would have made a different decision. Build one! They're not that complicated and basic woodworking skills/tools should get you there. You can make 'em bigger and better than anything you can buy for a reasonable price. There's a lot of folks who have DIY'd their tumblers and posted pictures/answers here in the homemade equipment section. It's a great help!
I just started mine last night! Made all the wood cuts and started assembling the frame! Woot!

With me it started when I saw all the jars of tumbled rock my dad had. He had tumbled a bunch from buckets he bought at one of those mines in NC. I asked him if I could have some of them cause I want to make some jewelry with them & he said take all you want! Next thing I know I'm ordering a 6lb tumbler, taking rocks off the mountain in NC. Then I asked him if I could have his 15lb Thumlers that was just sitting unused for 3 yrs. Of course he said yes. Then I see he has an old Genie someone gave him he never used, he said I could have that too.......And so it goes I'm hooked now, even got a 7" saw & now I want a bigger saw. I really don't thing there is a stopping point. But there is just something so satisfying about taking all that gosh ugly rock & tumbling, grinding out all the beauty that's in it. God's beautiful earth - sometimes you have to dig deep to find it!!!

Haha... you know you are scratching a never ending itch. There's no escape, so just go get another tumbler to tumble the extra rocks you got. Well then you need to get more rocks for the second tumbler. A saw always helps, then you will want to start cabbing, and a few more saws is always good, especially because you will be wanting more rocks. Then you will turn around and your two tumblers will have become 10. That is what is refered to as the rock cycle, and welcome to it ;D Steve
