Greetings all - I need to find a small parcel of pyrite pieces. I'm hoping to find small pea sized and maybe smaller pieces I can use in a upcoming event later this summer. My local library does a Summer Reading program for the young kids. A few years ago I did the same thing and it was a huge hit and now they'd like another round. Basically I use a small plastic swimming pool... dump rocks and sand inside mixed with pyrite and teach the kids the basic of gold panning. The event won't be until august so I have plenty of time, but looking for a cheap parcel of pyrite to use for the kids take home.
Thanks much

Jason,
I dont know if this information is valid anymore but I read online about someone's rockhounding adventures and he said he used to go to Green Peter Dam, on Quartzville Rd.(over by Sweet Home) and there was an abundance of pyrite there off the side of the road. He said him and his kids used to go there, fill buckets with soil and then go home and put the soil on a screen and run water over it. He said there was a ton of pyrite cubes in the soil.......mainly smallish ones.
Again, I dont know if this site is worth checking out anymore but if you are in the Sweet Home area between now and then, it might be worth a look.

Well I was hoping to find a good cup or two full of small pea sized pieces. Shannon your exactly right.... The last time I did this I had someone donate a large baggie full of pyrite from the green peter area. The material worked great. If I was a bit closer I'd run down... but Green Peter is several hours from me.
