After the rock show Saturday, Abby wanted to try cabbing! I started a few myself as she was working on hers. This is one I finished this afternoon. (I'll post hers tomorrow if she lets me.) This is a gorgeous piece of serpentine from Jo that she sent in the package I purchased from her last week. Thanks Jo, what sweet materials you sent! These are smaller stones, but I was able to slice one up for a cab. It's 1.5" high as photographed. Thanks for looking, Nate

Thanks guys. The way this stuff worked, I thought it would be like trying to polish a stick of butter. Wow is it soft! Had to use a really light hand. But I am very happy with how it turned out.

Randy, LOL, my crazy township uses them as parking lot gravel. Seriously, there's a couple of parks that we go to just to rockhound in the parking lots! I'm not the only one who does it either, met a couple members of the local Gem and Mineral Society doing the same thing, LOL.
We have a number of different types of Serpentine in the area, Lizardite, Antigorite, and a few others I can't remember and even more I haven't identified yet. We get blues, yellows, reds, multiple shades of green. I've even heard somebody drilling into a Serpentine wall with cordless power tools, but haven't figured that one out yet.
Some of it is resinous (waxy) and those are the ones that polish up so nicely. Others are more dry looking and take a matte finish, but may polish with some other methods that I haven't tried such as one of the Oxides on leather.
Nate, you are so welcome. Love what you did with this! Can't wait to see Abby's Blue Quartz!

Sheesh Jo, I can't believe the town uses this for gravel. You should find the quarry it comes from and maybe you could get bigger pieces! I'm assuming it's a local stone? Emily was going to cab the blue quartz. She was cold saturday and didn't want to stay outside with us, so Abby did a root beer agate cab instead.
Thanks everyone!

great shine on a softer stone. I also like the darker stripe across the stone.
