I went to the local Gem & Mineral show today - forgot to take the camera (yep, getting too darn old!), but I did score some really nice slabs, and I got to meet and talk with "jsgems" John. That was a real treat for me - he's such a nice guy, and very helpful!
All in all, a good day!

Yep, I hit the San Antonio show too. Darn good show. I too met John of JS Gems. He had a very nice booth with a ton of great looking equipment. Also met a fellow named Matt Dillon ( like Gunsmoke. Cool!) who was a wealth of information on Texas agate. He had lots of terrific slabs at wonderful prices and some fine Texas rough too. A little of each found their way into my goodie bags. I'm especially hoping for some good cuts out of some fine looking Rio Grande Plume biscuits I got from him. They also had a fine club booth with a ton of good information and the most giantest silent auction I've ever seen at a show. Probably had a hundred items up for bid at each go around. Only thing was, so many folks bidding that you couldn't get near the table to bid unless willing to go hand to hand with the masses of folks gathered around. Overall though, a really fine show and my wife and I had a great time.....Mel

Matt Dillon is a great guy. He lives here in Houston and is big in the Houston Gem and Mineral Society. I bought slabs and rough from him a couple times last year. He's great to talk to, loves to hunt rocks and has great material. Have you seen his flickr page? He has some amazing stuff, including some pet wood that looks like dino bone.
