I use Simple Green concentrate straight out of the bottle. No water added.
I've heard sudsy ammonia is good. For really stubborn grunge on peoples jewelry I've heard of some bench jewelers using lye or drano and boiling it. A little too toxic for me. I don't do repairs that often with diamonds. Don't want the liability. When you solder a piece with diamonds mounted you have to be sure to remove all the dirt or he diamonds will burn and look frosty and have to be re-polished by a diamond cutter.
I'll stick with the simple green and soak and run the ultrasound as long as it takes to clean the crap off. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff I get for repairs. Almost want to handle it with a hazmat suit on...

I like windex or a small amount of straight ammonia. For softer stones I have this purple cleaner that I use, I think it is called a Touch of Purple, got it at some home show as it was suppose to keep dust off my fan blades for a year, but it is great stuff cleans jewlery and your computer and tv monitors, and makes them resist dust.
