I got a call from a rock friend of mine wanting to sell her rock tumbler, asking if I was interested. She wants $100 for a 25lb tumbler with grit.
I just finished building a big tumbler this weekend and it's up and running. Here I am running 60 pounds and I'm considering another tumbler? I'm going to run out of rocks as it is. Am I crazy? Sick in the head? I already some little tumblers that I don't run all the time and here I am thinking about one more.
I told the person selling it that I am interested in the grit but deep down I am thinking of picking up the tumbler. Why? I don't know! Please knock some sense into me. Steve

Sorry, I can't help! I'd want to buy it, too, especially for that price!

Good finish tumbler to your 60lb unit; your not crazy, it's just a natural progression... so go with the flow. ;D
If you feel you need to get rid of it later, you could donate it to the Reverend Doctor Joe's First Alliance of the Sanctified Reincarnation Church of the Ancient Lapidary. We give homeless equipment new life, hope and meaning. To be sure it is a Non-Profit Manifest Destiny.

Well, if you run out of rough, you could sure visit Montana, Idaho, Arizona or a number of other states and pick up a few more tons! Hahahaha.
My only concern with having "too much" in the way of tumblers is the regular cost to feed them - grit, pellets and the occasional purchased rough. If that's not an obstacle, then why not? It would be good to have a spare that could be kicked into action in case it's needed. (e.g. you rebuild your tumbler for 90 lbs? Hahaha)
I'll be looking forward to seeing your polished rock driveway here soon!

It doesn't look like you're getting much help here, if you are looking for someone to knock some sense in your head! Too much support! However, if you have the bucks what they all say makes sense to me. Donnie

Thanks for the help, that's about where I'm at. Well I'm going on Wednesday to look at the grit and tumbler. Money it sotra tight but the real problem are the looks I am getting from Mrs. rocklicker. "What? Another rock machine? " A little while ago a bunch of FRB's from Jamie appeared on my doorstep magically and I barely got out of that one... so this is going to be a tough sell. It's gonna cost me the tumbler and a dozen roses at this point ;D Steve

I would say you are only crazy if you pass that deal up. A man can never have too many tumblers. And tumblers are a good excuse for needing more rock. And of course than you will end up with more rock and need another tumbler. I have been told that this is the rock cycle. You just have it figured out a little better than some of us newbies.

Tell her the drum is worth more than a $100. The tumbler is basically free. You could take the money you saved and buy more grit and rocks. At least this is the logic my wife uses when bargain shopping for clothes.

OK well I went there last night, and wouldn't you know it that tumler saw me and leapt ino my arms like a puppy. It wasn't a 25 pounder as the lady selling it thought but a 15lb'er, which is fine. There was lots of grit and she threw in lots of rocks to go with it. Best part was she said I could have to tumbler for $25, the grit for $40 and she threw in the rocks! What a deal! The tumbler is a homebrew style that needs some repair. It works fine as it sits, but I think I am going to fix it up a bit. One of the shafts isn't secure, and it needs a good cleaning. There was a lot of 600 grit and some weird polishing compunds I have never heard of. Nice thing was there is a few jars of Raybright A! John, I agree, the barrel alone was worth it! I was thinking about that. Steve Here's what I came home with. The new family member: Boxes of grit and polish: Lots of rocks. At least 20 pounds of local pet wood, chrysocolla, and some cool beach rocks.

Beach rocks? I've been hanging out on the wrong beaches, I gotta move out of Florida!
Very NICE score - all for $65
PS... regardless, this doesn't rule out your being crazy ;D

From the looks of the grit and polish in the boxes you did well, the cost of product and driving &/or shipping makes your find cheap, plus the machine and a bunch of really nice rocks.
