Our local gem and mineral society is putting on it's annual Gem and Mineral show on April 17-18 this year. It is held at the Helena Civic Center. There are a number of different vendors along with a black light tent, display cases of member's specimens, wire wrapping demonstrations, kids activities, and a silent auction. It isn't as big as Quartzsite or Tucson but heck, what do you expect for a small town like Helena ;D

Wish I could make it, but it looks like I'll be up in Darby for that weekend and won't be able to get away. Ah well...but I will be able to hound the Marias river again! Woot!

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it. It would be nice to meet another RTH'er. I've never hounded the Marias, what kinds of rocks do you find there?

Not sure what I was thinking - going to Shelby, MT...not Darby! Hahaha. North, south...one of these days I'll get 'em figured out!
It's mostly regular river rock on the Marias, but there's occasional finds of chalcedony. (Mostly the regular brown/beige colored stuff...but sometimes a red/yellow/other color) I've only hounded about a 200 yard stretch of the Marias and I got the sense that it had been mostly picked over. Hoping to get out when I'm not working and find some less traveled paths. I might also bug on over towards Glacier next Sunday and do some hounding there.
My regrets that I can't make it!

Gee, hope you get it figured out soon, big difference between Shelby and Darby...lol. Don't want to go to one and find out you're supposed to be in the other...lol. Just don't hound inside the park, that's a big no no. Hope you have a safe trip. Maybe you can make it next year.
