Holy crap! That looks like a 16-18 inch saw. I only paid $400 for mine...
People get crazy at auctions...

You can buy the brand new chinese version for $2800. Or rebuilt ones for $1000-2000 depending on shape and blade. But from the pictures it did look really clean, it did have one part hanging off the side that didn't look so kosher though, maybe the tensioner pulley or something.
I saw a little lortone 10" saw in horrendous shape go for $600 at an estate auction last year. I only bid up to $50. But then a gunny sack full of moss agate went for $20, go figure.
People are funny...........Tony

Those Lortone 10" cabinet saws are my favorite 10" saw. I wish I had one or two more. They usually go for $200-$300 depending on condition.
My $400 HP 16"/18" saw came without a blade and they guy thought the guides needed resurfaced because it kept flipping the breaker. When I got it home I checked the wiring on the motor and it was scary. I'm surprised the guy didn't burn his shop down. Everything else with the saw was pristine. Powerwashed and freshly painted.
A friend of mine got a 24" saw with a good blade for $1100. I saw the Craig's list ad and the guy wanted $2000 so my friend is a good negotiators. I would like to find a 24" basket case that I can rebuild. A little easier on the wallet that way...

The VA Medical Centers have all sorts of sports, and hobby equipment for rehibilitation. This one likely had a lapidary shop. Woody
