I've been lagging in my favorite pursuit....anything to do with rocks. Seemed like every time I got started, something went wrong. Hand injury, vision problem, slab saw pulley falling off......and so on. So, when Jeff (JCinPC) posted the Craig's List sale of some equipment belonging to an 80 y/o north of Tampa I was intrigued. The price was very reasonable but the logistics (and my budget) just didn't cut it. After negotiating, waiting for weeks to go get it, renting a UHaul trailer, and heading north.....
..... I must have hit the lottery. All of this for about 1/2 the price of a new Genie. Plus, I haven't photographed everything yet.
Here's the original picture from Craig's List:
The bench has a pvc strip running down the center with outlets for the equipment. The whole thing is about 70" long. It weighs a ton.
Here's what doesn't show in the photo:
No idea what this is for!
A close up of the Genie.....in absolutely mint condition!
Plus a really cool dop pot like I've never seen, an optivisor, an extra motor, extra wheels for the Genie, and a big container of materials for electroplating (no equipment), casting wax, piles of Rock & Gem and Lapidary Journal mags and more than I can remember right now!!!!
I spread the rocks all over my driveway and tried to show the variety. The best part is that so many of the slabs and pieces of rough are things I've never seen! A lot of variety that as you can imagine only revealed the beauty when I started dousing everything to check it out!
The remaining pile after I picked through and took photos:
The slab bucket:
Selected rough:
Some of the blues & greens:
The "I don't know what this is" bunch....one cut, two dry, one wet:
Some of my favorites. Does anyone know what the large piece in the center of the strainer is? There's another chunk above it and one more upper right.
And, finally....
Two little slabs and my first cabs on my new Genie!!!!
The sunlight and my hands were giving out.
The absolute best part of the trip was getting to see Jeff, meet his gorgeous children, and trading goodies from my new finds and his huge collection. Thank you, Jeff, for letting me know about the sale and for teaching me more every time I see you about Florida geology and rocks!!!!
