I had a heck of a time making this one. With the posting of the video tutorial, I was finally able to figure out what was wrong with what I was doing. I only wasted 4 rings' worth of wire. The stone is a moonstone cab that was given to me to make a ring for the owner of the stone. It was already cabbed. I had noticed that the bottom was also slightly domed, not flat at all. Didn't give it any thought. I finally figured out my problem I was having was not so much my wrapping skill, which did have some bearing on things, but it was the stone itself! After I had reviewed all the steps, making sure I wasn't skipping something, and giving up about twenty times, I started looking at the stone itself. The only thing that made sense was that the curved bottom of the cab had to be a problem. No matter what I tried, I just could not get past the stone setting step. So, I go and grind the bottom flat, rework the dome just a bit, and, try one more wrap. Wonder of wonders!! It all came together. Thought I would pass this experience along to anyone else that can use it. I really did not think having a curved bottom on the stone would have me pulling whats' left of my hair out!! Now, thanks to that video and what I discovered about the cab, and how my confidence has been somewhat restored, I'm gonna pick me out a rock and make me a ring!! ps: I had used up all my 21ga wire on the failed attempts, so, I used 20ga SS hh wire and I wrapped the shank with 21ga half round SS hh wire. It looks good using the larger gauge wire. Thanks; Mike

Really pretty. I like the way you wrapped the band too. You did a great job on that and thanks for sharing the flat back thing. I looked at the vid last night and I wanna try it as soon as I get some more wire.

Fantastic job, where is this video tutorial you mention? I'm a newbie here but not to wire wrapping, have seen this ring many times but have not got the instructions to make it.

Great, great, job there mike. I've been trying to figure this one out all weekend and used up all of my practice wire and didn't get anywhere. I see that you used Half Hard wire, and I think this might be the key to this wrap. what size was the stone you used? how did you figure out how wide to place your initial wraps and how wide to make the second set of hoops? I've never been so frustrated with a wrap!

redrock, the cab was a 20x15, with a high dome. When I made the back flat, I also took a little off the edges, and that dome was a little uneven, so I went ahead and worked on that also. Afterward, the stone was a little under 20x15, but a little larger than 18x13. I went ahead and used the measurements given in the video. I had to finagle the bottom wire under the stone just a bit. Flattening it with the flatnose pliers and pushing it up under the stone a little. The link to the video I followed is in the other postin about the macintosh style wire ring. Hope this helps.
