Howdy folks, Finally cleaned my saw yesterday and cut some slabs. Both these came out of that Eagle Pass, Texas gravel pit material. Thanks for looking...Mel "Devil's Toenails" aka " Clam Chowder Stone", a fossiliferous limestone. Really like this stuff and I'd have a lot if my wife didn't steal most of it for her flower garden. Closer look: One of those odd orby almost poppy jasper like agates from the Rio Grande. This is the orangest stuff I've ever cut and even turned the oil bright orange All full of little poppies, whorls, lacy stuff etc. Very solid and hard to saw too! Close up:

You know Nate, I've not polished any of this orange type devils toenails yet. The black and white form, which I have worked, is also limestone and takes a mirror polish. Most the limestone fossil type materials I've tried tend to polish pretty well on the wheels and this is real solid looking stuff so I suspect it'll do well too....Mel

Thanks Mel. I've seen some limestone hunks with piled up shell fossils in them locally. If I see one again I'll pick it up and see if it's cab worthy. Don't think it'll be that colorful though.

Cool stuff, it does sort of look like toe nails! Would love to cab both of those stones

Those are beautiful slabs Mel! I have cabbed some of the clam shell and it shined up pretty well but there was a soft spot that I had to baby. Your slices look much harder than what I was working with. That Poppy is amazing! I just love the color and the swirls and flow in it keep me mesmerized! Fran
