the other problem with tiny or any opal is that you need to be real careful as they will chip and crack very easily I have several much smaller ones that I will work up to that one is done in 24g wire and the smaller ones I will do in 26g my next goal is to learn prong set wire wrap for all the faceted stone in my treasure trove

Wow, that's small! And very pretty, too. If it was me, the first thing I'd do would be lose sight of the penny - never mind the opal! LOL!

You know, they are both beauties but I love the second one. I think it is because your eye is drawn immediately to the stone instead of the wrap first. It really frames it well and with these tiny stones, that is really hard to do! Excellent work! Fran

I use 4 24g wires to not put any stress or pressure on the opal, pre form the wire using tools to get the shape right for the stone as opal is one of the stones that will chip out and crack if you push wire against it. I kiiled a very beautiful all red fire white base opal in a ring I was making, but it made several small stones out of the disaster.
the very first tiny opal picture is the very first I did so it not real great as the wire is kinda crooked. That opal is very thin and I was afraid I was going to kill it. I sometimes take opals that are thin and back them with black or white epoxy based puddy to give them substance.
today I am going to attempt even smaller cabs using 26g wire!

Those are really cool! Well done! I've been trying to wrap small stones for earrings but haven't had as much luck as you have, these are beautiful!!

thanks! I used 26g wire for those and just took my time. When your doing these tiny stones its real important to use magnification of some sort and real good lighting. A good set of strong tweezers helps too I do the tiny gilson lab opals tomorrow, those did me in for the day.

Wow! Nice. I don't think my eyesight is good enough to do one that small. I have a hard enough time as it is.

I like the 2nd opal better than the first - the stone doesn't seem so overwhelmed by the size of the wrap. The blue ones are terrific too.
