Help, we have a larger tumbler, a 6, and we tried a batch about a year ago...no luck. So recently we re-tumbled everything, used 3 grits for about a week each, then polish. No shine. re-did them for a few days, using 600 grit, then 7 days of polish, checking them along the way...very smooth, NO SHINE...what are we doing wrong? I watched the wonderful tutorial, we did everything like it showed...the store is confused as to why this batch isn't working...help......could we have tumbled them too much?

Can you take pictures of them and post them for us? It would help us see what they need so we can lend advice. Welcome to the board! Jo

Yes, It's very important to tell us what kind of rocks are in the mix too as some things cannot be tumbled together and others won't take a polish in a tumbler at all.....Mel

Plus, did you use fillers after each stage so that the barrels were roughly 2/3s full?

Even though you "may" think you have followed the instructions to the letter there are a LOT of little things that may have not been done or have been done that shouldn't have. Some have been touched on here like what type of rocks are you tumbling?
Are you using a separate barrel for polish stage?
What type of polish are you using?
Just to name a few of many, many things that we have to know before we can begin to help you.
Give us the specifics and I guarantee we can help you to have some of the best looking polished rocks on this planet!

what everyone else said, and ...
depending on the condition of the rock you may have needed to repeat the 1st grit upto 16 times - yes 16 weeks, before moving to the next grit.
also if you have altered jasper or other softer rock, it is just not going topolish, so let us know what the rocks look like, and where you got them.

I concur with the experts that have posted above. Especially the last bit - if the rocks aren't ready to come out of the 1st grind, the other stages are a waste.
