Just wanted to say hi! My daughters and I like to collect rocks, beach glass, and shells. I have a small Lortone tumbler and our first batch of stones turned out pretty good although it took a while to go through all the cycles. I've managed to acquire a 10" Lortone slab saw, a 6" Rock Rascal trim saw with a 6" grinding wheel, and a large FranTom 8" grinder with 4 wheels, 1 sander, and 1 polisher. If I hadn't mentioned before, I have an ebay/craigslist tool addiction I've managed to cut some slabs with the slab saw but I haven't tried the trim saw or grinder yet. One of these days I'd like to try making some cabochons and maybe try wire wrapping. Justin

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement. I went ahead and cut some slabs from a neat looking green/white rock. I'll try to get some pictures and put them in the slab section. I also tested out the motors on the 8" FranTom grinder and it looks good. On the other hand, the 6" Rock Rascal motor pulley looks like it's bent so that it wobbles when the motor is on. Anybody know a good place to get a motor pulley?

Any local hardware should have pulleys. Measure the shaft and outside diameter or take the old one with you.

I was going to order a pulley from McMaster Carr but I managed to find a replacement pulley at a local hardware store. Thanks for the tips.

Welcome Juzwuz. I envy you. You are from the place of my dreams. The Pacific Northwest. Not only that, you collect rocks with your kids. Nothing better than seeing the wonder in kids eyes when they find something they like. A few years ago we went to Seattle to watch orcas. We did it through Island Adventures and stayed there in Anacortes. On the way back we spent a night in Everett. Enjoy the boards here. Lots of cool stuff.
