I've been wanting to learn to carve for the past couple of years. Since I figured out how to add a hand piece for carving to the UDG, here are the first two efforts. These were done mostly for practice. I named this one "Mud Bug". There was a totally ripping Zydeco band on the radio yesterday with the same name. I could barely stay seated. I kept getting up and dancing! It's carved from Russian seraphinite. There are many areas of chatoyancy not visible in the pictures. This one is "Horse Feathers". I had to name it something so it wouldn't feel neglected. The material is Australian prehnite. Thanks everyone on RTH for being such an inspiration!

Beautiful work Richard, they look fantastic - especially for first tries! I love the comment about the zydeco. Nothing like some jumpin' music to get you motivated. I'll have to check out Mud Bug.

I love the shapes. Guess I'm an old fuddy-duddy, never heard of those bands. Beatles and Monkeys and Elvis are what I know. Hee hee Ken

Those are great! I could only hope my practice should look half as good as these.
