Hi Everyone!
I'm totally new to rock tumbling, but not new to having the fascination with rocks. My husband was an over the road truck driver and we've been All over the US. We found the big fascination with picking up rocks from various states because of their beauty (always armed with a spray bottle of water)! Thing was... didn't know WHAT to do with them once I had all these qt. baggies labeled with where and when I got them. So, we finally bought a Thumbler's A-R2 to start with.
We read the "booklet" and was all excited, and we started to a batch of rocks. Since coming to this site I have found more info than I have ANYWHERE I've looked, I wished I would have found this site sooner, but ya’ll should know about over excited newbie’s…can’t wait! You always learn to do your homework "afterwards".
:help: I am having a problem with my barrel wearing on the white nylon piece...My table is level... made sure of this before I started.. I put a level on it! It is still rubbing it though, both barrels rolling to the left toward the motor. I’m not sure HOW to correct this.
:help: Also, after the course grit, then the fine the rocks look really great...smooth and lordy the colors were awesome. I have some in particular that we picked up in Utah and Colorado, but most are just plain rocks that we picked up at sites around here in Louisiana. When I put them in my pre-polish... (Didn’t know to use the plastic pellets, book didn't' tell ya that) I've alot of rough spots and found some chips in my rocks. Can I start them over, and re-smooth them before I pre-polish? If anyone can help it would surely be appreciated.
I am planning to order some more barrels, so I have one for each grit. Can anyone tell me also where I can purchase the sieves?
:help: Last but not least, I was told that you could save the grits…and reuse them. Is this true? If so, how would you sieve out the fine and the polishes? If anyone can give me some helped I would truly appreciate ALL help!
