Just wondering if these two can be tumbled together. I have some of both that are going to need a while in the course and thought I would combine if that would work out.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can try anything, but they're different hardness. Hematite is 5.5-6.5, but Carnelian is 6-7+.
In coarse grind, the carnelian will help grind down the hematite, but the carnelian itself may not change much.
So, the worst case would be soft hematite and hard carnelian.

Yup, coarse and meduim grind are probably OK, but if you get all the way to polish with them together, the hematite may not come out as shiney as the carnelian. Steve

The several times I tumbled hematite mixed with harder materials, I had to take the hematite out after about the third day because they lost so much volume. Then I would add them to the next grind with the rest and kept a close eye on them.Kinda shocked me the first time I left them in too long, not much left. Just my experience.
