Howdy folks, Just a short question. I've only had my UV-10 for a few months and use if for only the last three stages. Do you other users use plastic pellets in the fine grind stage? Every time I do, all the pellets climb out of the tub and wind up stuck to the lid where of course, they do nothing to cushion the load. I also use them in the prepolish and polish and they don't climb out of the barrel in those stages. Anyone else notice this problem?......Mel

When I first started using my UV-18, I was told that plastic pellets don't work very well in the vibe because they're too light. I've always used ceramics, but even then, the small ones will climb the walls of the tumbler and stick to the lid, so I add extra. I think you're right that it's worse in stage 2 than in pre-polish and polish. I think it's because the slurry is thicker. It doesn't seem to hurt the polish, though.
I also use my UV-18 for only the last 3 stages.
Hope that helps, Chuck

ceramic, ceramic, and ceramic.
I woudl only use "larger" plastic filler if there was a weight issue.

I use a mix of both the large and small ceramic pellets from The Rock Shed in my UV-10. They are a pain to clean, but have provided the necessary cushion to reduce edge chipping.

I use a combination of ceramic, glass marble, tempered glass shards, and glass globs you can buy at the dollar store used for filling vases and such. I'm finding those glass globs are the most cost effective at $1 per pound.

cermanic, cermanic was right ;D --- and they do tend to climb the walls -- think it is due to having "thicker" slurry , in the fine stage or polish , it is slicker "?" so they fall off easier
