Hi all, I know most are aware of the safety equiptment that you should wear while cabbing and there has been a lot of discussion about it, but I just want to reiterate it due to what happened to me today.
I've been using safety glasses, respirator and headphones lately for the full cabbing process and today while polishing on the end pad, the pad grabbed the cab and flung it. The cab rickcochade (sp?) off the wall and slamed into the side of my safety glasses and bounced off. I think that had I not had the arms of the safety glases firmly tucked behind the head phones, the glasses probably would have gone flying.
Please if you don't already gear up, do so.
I just wanted to pass this along.
Lori

Learned the hard way. I still have a sliver of what I believe to be Quartz embedded in my eye from slabbing years ago. My wife sees it sometimes in the right light. It hurt for awhile when it happened and I must have got used to it because now I don't even think about it unless she mentions it from time to time.
Hindsight, now I slab behind a piece of Plexiglas WITH safety glasses on.

I always wear safety glasses with side shields. Glad to hear your glasses protected you. Polishing on the pads can be dangerous. I had a cab grab and go flying before too.

Yep. I've had cabs shoot off the polishing pad, too. Fortunately, the wall is a long ways away, so I've never had one bounce back. But, I did end up with a small chip in my eye when I was using my WF a week or so ago, and that was with glasses on. I think I'll start wearing safety glasses over my glasses.

I may look a little strange but I am definitely safe when I am cutting or cabbing! Don't want to take any chances with my eyes, ears, nose, mouth or lungs! The equipment is cheap compared to the damage that can be caused by not taking precautions. Fran

When I grind on the 80 I often can hear the sound of small particles hitting my glasses. It is quite common and eye protection should always be worn. Thanks for the reminder Stu
