Howdy folks, The wife and I felt like a wildflower drive and a hike this week so we drove over to Enchanted Rock Natural Area near Fredericksburg. Day turned out to be a bit hot and humid but the hike was still fun and the flowers this year, with 16 inches of rain so far, were very nice. Anyway, a few pics and thanks for looking....Mel Enchanted Rocks, a massive dome of beautiful red and black granite that popped up through the surface of the Llano Uplift. Not smoggy, that's water vapor in the air *S*. Neat granite rock formations: Bluebonnets, Texas state flower: Hill county roadsides. Flowers go on forever as do the rolling roads: Indian Blankets, my favorite flower. A few insects: Scarab beetle on Antelope Horns, a type of milkweed. Milkweed Bug Porno: New lifer butterfly for me, A Comma in summer color phase.

Mel, thats beautiful country and flowers, I used to drive through the area every year. There was a hill near there that had a huge round rock, called Balanced Rock. Some idiot thought it would be cool to dynamite it,not there anymore. Did you walk to the top of enchanted rock?

Nice pictures, Mel. Love the granite outcroppings. I love to drive along the Inks Lake State Park park road (dodging the suicidal deer) and see the tons of wildflowers contrasted with the massive granite boulders.

Snuffy: We hiked the loop trail which sort of goes up and around the actual rock. Very pretty this year with lots of live springs running water.
Tom: Man you ain't kidding about suicidal deer, especially towards dark. My favorite is when they get on the road between game fences. Man they bounce back and forth like killer pinballs. Got to be on yore toes driving hill country roads.....Mel

Very cool pictures Mel. That granite formed in some pretty interesting shapes. Looks like Texas is quite a state for wildflowers.
