Finally got a chance to finish some cabs from some of the local stuff that I found. I had started them about a month ago (from my Cool Finds thread forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=37049&page=1) and haven't been able to finish til today. Here's the group: ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo8/NatureNut_album/Deweylite/DSC01837.jpg) Local Jasper ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo8/NatureNut_album/Deweylite/DSC01841.jpg) Another Local Jasper (think Paul and Greg got a slab or two of this) In the shade ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo8/NatureNut_album/Deweylite/DSC01817.jpg) In the sun ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo8/NatureNut_album/Deweylite/DSC01835.jpg) This is the one that looked like a red tiger eye, I took it to our local geologist and he shook his head. I still think there's something different about it. In the shade ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo8/NatureNut_album/Deweylite/DSC01822.jpg) In the sun ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo8/NatureNut_album/Deweylite/DSC01829.jpg) Last is an Amazonite Moonstone mix In the shade ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo8/NatureNut_album/Deweylite/DSC01820.jpg) In the sun ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo8/NatureNut_album/Deweylite/DSC01830.jpg) I'd show you some pics of what's been going on here, but all I'd be showing you is an empty house, LOL. Sleeping on an airbed and doing the computer thing on a fold up table. The rig is in the shop and should be home any day now. As soon as it comes home, we're gonna load it up and customize it and head for South Dakota to establish residency. That's just for driver's licenses and vehicle registration and mail forwarding through a service for full time RVers there. Then we head back here to PA for settlement. So... while we're waiting for the rig, I'm gonna wrap a couple of these cabs tonight and go get Sands some blue quartz tomorrow morning. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Thanks for looking! Jo

Nice to see you get to take a little time to play with the rocks Jo. These are some nice finds. I bet they'll be fantastic wrapped.

Almost wrapped that one last night Tony, but I'm thinking it's calling for some gold... got a couple strands of gold-filled left, gotta see if they are long enough, otherwise it'll have to wait til I get more.
Thanks you guys!

Thanks Fran, just wrapped that one last week. Tony, he said it was just one of our local "ironstone" jaspers. Not Ironstone per se, but stone that has lots of iron. It was implied that lots of funky things can happen here that are head scratchers.

I like that one you showed to the geologist, very cool! Hey, believe it or not, I finally have a box nearly ready for you, planned to ship tomorrow. Will you still be at home to get it? Probably Monday or Tue I guess. Coming Priority.

Is it possible the fist three stones are weathered and stained serpentenites? That would make the "tiger eye" in the third stone chrysotile, an asbestoform mineral in the serpentine group. The tell tail signs for me are the green undertones with lots of iron oxides, and that peculiar texture. True jaspers are opaque otherwise its a jasp-agate, which is mostly a mineralogical designation.

Nancy- yep, plans just changed... we'll be here til the end of June. Jo Thanks Nancy, Karock and Paul. You guys are the best! Hi Rock, Welcome to the board. I sure can take what you asked to our local geologist and ask him for you. Yes, you are right that our local jasper is different in that it is mineral replacement of/addition to rock that has worn away into a honeycomb structure. There is Serpentine in the area. Sorry, that's the best I can do to answer your question without input from our local expert, but what you said is very interesting and it's possible you may have something there. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
