I'm headed down that way next Monday to work on a Lowes. Should be there between 7-10 days. Can't wait to feel some warmer weather....although it may be a little too hott too quick. Any good rockhounding in the vicinity. (An hour or so drive) and any RTH'ers close by to visit? Thanks for any help... Steve

Steve, I've never collected that part of NM myself but one of my books suggests trying the Bluewater area for petrified wood and agate. The collecting area is supposed to be north of Bluewater State Park to the east side of the access road from Prewitt. Pretty far from Los Lunas though, about one and one half hours....Mel

Hi Steve, I was in Los Lunas end of March. There is place to collect jasper, agate, and petrified wood that described in the book "Rockhounding New Mexico" as site 30. This location is approx 10 miles from Los Lunas. You can find directions at www.rockhounds.com/rockshop/nmsites.html. Pic is example of wood that I collected. Attachments:

Steve: I am up in the Rio Rancho area. We just moved here, but I have been finding loads of agate in the hills near here. I'll get some pics this weekend, we're going on a collecting mission Saturday. I'll send you a PM.

Thanks Mel, Yurila, and Dan! With a little Luck......I'll have an extra day to go out and do some rockhounding! Sometimes these out of town jobs are all work and no play. I appreciate the info.... Steve
