made my first cab today, out of a nice piece of rhodochrosite. Had a tough time getting a polish, a 12000 grit diamond wheel dry seemed to give a better shine than cerium on felt, so I left it at that. Going to a lovely lady as a birthday present.

Very nice first cab. Your choice of materials is brave. Rhodochrosite is difficult to cab and you did a nice job.

That is really a tough one to do, especially since it has so many vugs in it! That may be the reason it is so tough to shine up. The stuff I have polished up on the 3000 grit. You will love the next cab you work on if you get something that is not so sensitive to work on. Good first cab! Keep up the good work! Fran

What they both said about the difficulty level of your first cab. That said you did a fantastic job. Diamond paste can be a problem on vuggy stones if you use more than one grit of paste. The courser past gets stuck in the vugs and its impossible to get it all out so there is a great chance of contaminating your next belt. Rhodochrosite can be hard to polish even without that problem. Nice work.
