Well I finished 5 days of phase 1 ..60 grit in my model B! I am very happy so far, I only had to cull4 stones out of around 15 pounds of various Agate, Quartz, Citrine etc. A few of the rocks had eroded so far that there were large pits in them and I worried about contamination for the next stages..the rest were as smooth as a baby’s bottom. I did a cup of borax after a good washing and am going to let it tumble for an hour or so and then onto Phase 2 or 220 grit. I am very anxious to get these done..the prairie agate is fabulous to look at as are some of the other pieces. If any one has any suggestions feel free to post them as I am very green at this.
Thanks Dwight P

I think your on the right track here with the wash after tumble phases... in the beginning i too did a wash tumble after each... mind you it was with just water... I think I will go back to it ... it seems that my results were a little better doing it... do you live in the praries and collect the agates yourself? I have came across a black stone that sits on the beach and it sticks out like a sore thumb... I call them stress rocks cuz when I polish them up the smoothness and shine is like no other I polish and people I give them to just sit there and rub it between the thumb and first finger so I had the wife take a bunch to work durring tax time ;D don't know what they are but it is clear that there has been some vocanic action around the area If I collect enough of them perhaps I could send you some to try... the site is about 5 hours away from where I live but the stones are there by the thousands have a great day HURK

Hi Hurk, no I live in the Deep South...North West Alabama to be exact. I ordered the prairie agate from the rock shed..it is just beautiful. I would love to have a few of those stress stones to tumble sometimes. Perhaps the next time you go out there you can pick me up a pocketful or so...I would be happy to pay for the shipping here...I don’t know if there is anything here you would want..but if I find something I would be happy to send you some local stones. There is one unique stone that I only have one of ...but a guy I know (who gave it to me) said there is a place about 20 miles away where you can pick these up...when I find it I will get you some of these rocks I call "Leopard rock" I have one in the tumbler now..there is also a picture of it posted in the photos.
Thanks Dwight P
