A common flag flying around these parts is the old Gonzales, TX flag with the cannon that says simply, "Come and take it!".....Mel

Mel: I think I need one of those Gonzales flags. Online search next. Those commie or anti American B's will get mine right after I run the mags dry, and I stop breathing. Woody

I used this flag as my signature until I got so fed up with Congress that I changed it. The story behind it in a nutshell is that Santa Anna's army controlled Gonzales Tx until the Texicans came in and ran all of them off. Among the things they left in their hasty retreat was a cannon that belonged to Santa Anna himself. They sent a messenger into Gonzales telling the Texicans they wanted their cannon back. So the Texicans in response made this flag and flew it where the Mexican army could see it. Tough bunch of peoples, them Texicans. Unlike the wimps we have become today. Curt

Is it about owning guns, or the "right" to own guns?

Fear the politicians who fear our guns. They know that as long as we're armed, they can't control us as they'd like to do.

You really have to listen when Obama speaks...about anything...double speak or the following lines he says...example...
When DC mayor was trying to get all the guns taken from the hands of DC residents...at the time DC said you could have guns in your home...but the bullets and guns had to be in different locations...not together. In other words each in a different room and the gun could not be loaded...both under lock and key.
At that same time Obama says...I support the right for everyone to own guns... but, is should be under the same DC law but made stricter for the sake of the children...
In other words you can own a gun and ammunition but you can't put them together or remove them from your home.

Jerryde, that reffers to the safe storage of firearms. We have the same laws here in Canada. It doesn't mean you can't put them together. Whe you go hunting, you go hunting. When your done, then propper storage comes into play. It's just common sense. I go one further and remove the bolt from the rifle. All it takes is a curious kid to decide to play cowboys and indians for real to realize how dangerous it is to leave loaded guns laying around.

There is nothing more useless than an unloaded gun.
The people that I know around here, who's children grew up around hunting and around guns, those children grow up respecting said guns. As they are taught.
You can remove the bolt, or place trigger locks. But until that youngster is taught the respect and know how, all of that is out the window.
Bottom line if you are going to have a firearm within your families household, teach everyone in that household how to operate and respect said weapon.
Respect = the gun doesn't know you from a paper target, and if you don't know if it is loaded, then it always is, and so on.

No kids in my house. Loaded .38 beside my recliner. Loaded .25 auto in the bedside table. Loaded rifle just inside the front door, and a loaded 12 ga pump in the closet by the front door. Too many break ins and robberies these days, even here in S.D. You kick in my door, and I'm going to blow you back outside.

By the DC law was changed allowing loaded guns in the home, yet under lock and key...
I suspect more kids lives are damaged by pot, coke, mom & pop prescriptions drugs and alcohol than any groups of gun of all kinds. That's why we don't secure the southern boarder...how else can we as adults have our so called harmless fun...
America is it's own worst enemy with it's so called kinky fun habits...
