Anyone interested in doing an RTH trip to McDermitt, Nevada?
I have had several conversations in which the idea came up, so I am asking to see if there is some interest in this. There are only 2 hotels in the town and both are fairly small, but the town caters to rock hounds, and there are ample camping spots for those who would rather stay closer to the rocks. The drive from town to the rock hounding areas can be done in less than an hour. There is plenty of material laying around to be picked up, and for those who want to dig to find better stuff, there is plenty of that also.
I was thinking about sometime this fall when the weather cools off some, but I am open to whatever. Just wanted to see if there is enough interest to start putting this together.
Respond here in this thread and if there is enough interest we will start planning this trip.
Have a great day................Tony

Having spent the last couple of weekend only about 100 miles south of there, I have to say- right now is an exceptionally beautiful time to be exploring the northern extents of the Great Basin, it's been a really good year for rain and the flowers are unlike anything I've seen out there before.
The rock hounding might be a little easier after things dry out in the fall, but it really is nice right now...

Tony when are you planning the trip? I might be able to squeeze this one.
I really like the great wood they have over there

Hey Ozzy, That is up to everyone who is interested in going. I was just checking to see if there is enough interest to start planning a trip. Looks like only 4 of us so far, but then again, that could be excuse enough to go!

Hey! I am thinking of heading for Utah come September...........I should be all healed by then, and McDermitt just seems to be on the route there, eh. Hopefully, I can coordinate this with the Utah trip. Woody

I (or we) might be up for that If it isn't too very cool. Is it ever going to warm up here in Idaho? I've got a trip in mind too that would have a cabin with heat! (that's all it has) I'll post in another thread once I check it out more.

Have a great day................Tony I remembered this thread this morning and had to check if any plans were made. I am leaving Friday, Sept. 24th. The goal is to make a loop through Burns, Klameth, stopping in Bonanza to visit old CA neighbors, then taking 140 to McDermitt and back up 95. This morning I thought maybe of reversing the loop to go through McDermitt first then up 395 etc. Would anyone be up for this trip? Tony??? I will camp where ever I can find a spot. I don't know the area at all but thought I'd just explore on my own if no one else is interested.

I would love to, but I am leaving for Sidney, MT on the 27th for a job, hoping to get some rock hunting in somewhere over there. Stop in and talk to Joe and Kit at the White Horse they will either point you in the right direction or maybe go out with you. If you can't find them knock on the door at the pink house across from the casino.
Let us know what you find. Happy Trails.....................Tony
