These are some of the rocks that I have found on our yearly horseback ride to see the wild horses. Here's the boring rock that started my rockhounding addiction in 2003... The neighbor cut it in half and here's what got me started wanting to see what's INSIDE rocks. Stan's great find this year Same rock - need to clean off the lichen but the amount of crystals inside makes this a really cool one for me Nodule and slices from a couple years ago what's left of that same nodule Single slice from that nodule Multi-chambered rock, every inside surface covered with crystals. Same chambered rock This banding is typical of what we see in Challis Agate. Banding and crystals We find crystals in very weirdly shaped rocks. Now, can somebody tell me what these "worm holes" really are? :-) Closeup of "worm holes" Thanks for looking! Barb

Wow, some really nice finds there. I got hooked on rocks some 48 years ago in Wyoming. My dad got lost and the family was suppose to be going towards Devils Tower. After awhile my bother and I convinced him he was headed toward Casper. So he decided on another route fo Devils Tower. He got tired of driving and pulled between to road cuts to get a nap in the shade. My mother found a fossil flower replaced by gymsum (spelling off) on red sandstone. I was hooked good for sure. We also saw a huge herd of buffalo and on one side of the road was buffalo for as far as you could see. I have never forgot it. I was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming but have lived in Georgia since 1954. I really have the urge to return to Wyoming. The last time out was in June of 1994. Thanks for sharing Barb !!!

Very cool rocks Barb, glad you showed us even the "ugly" one...lol. My guess, and this is truly a guess, is the "worm holes" are where the crystal plate broke off from the stalactites. They look like broken stalactites so that's where the guess came from.

Barb and Stan These are so beautiful but then everything about your trip was. Your heart is as expansive as the country you roamed that weekend.

Garock - You said "I really have the urge to return to Wyoming. The last time out was in June of 1994". Sounds like you are overdue, and I betcha some of our Wyoming members and other westerners could outline some places you need to check out! Barb
