I got this on ebay. Don't buy rough very often, and I think I only bought rough once on ebay, but nobody was bidding on it, so I did this on a curious whim. It's from Ethiopia but shipped out of Thailand. I paid 99 cents for it with $10 shipping. It's 15.3 cts Here's one from another side So.. I looked to see if I could see any fire and... Well... what do I do now? LOL. What would you do? Thanks! Jo

Laugh it up, Greg! Maybe I'll do a light exploratory grind on that spot.... and hold my breath not to quench the fire...

Ethiopian opal (the old standard stuff) is a dark brown normally. It reminds me of a really dark Mexican opal. Usually shot through with fire in all colors. Fractures/crazing is a common problem. I hate to be a party pooper but if that is the only fire showing I wouldn't lose sleep over grinding it. I think I'd cut a small cab incorporating the little fire showing and hope to find more when you cut/grind.

you could thin slice it and make some doublets or even triplets out of it. You might consider stabilizing it before you cut too!
