I was just reading my latest Harbor Freight flyer and saw they have 70 grit Aluminum Oxide for $49.99 for 44 lbs for sandblasting. I checked and Aluminum Oxide is 9 on the MOHS scale with SiC being 9-9.6.
I'm aware that SiC granules break down with sharper edges where Aluminum Oxide granules round down but the price is tempting.
Anyone try 70 grit Aluminum Oxide for tumbling?

If it doesn't stay sharp as it breaks down won't it cost more than 60/90 because of the extra aluminum you would use? Seems like you would have to recharge more frequently if the aluminum breaks down into smooth particles

I tried 200 grit AO after a week it did virtually nothing to agate/jasper. Stick with SiC

Rick, that would apply to many of their products.

Yeah, my usual rule of thumb is if is a tool I'm only going to use occasionally I'll buy at Harbor Freight but if it's a tool I'll use often or could possibly be dangerous I stick with the higher quality tools.
