I have been playing around with my two Beech barrel tumblers for over a year now. I find that the more i polish the more i get hooked on this wonderful hobby. I have spoken to a friend, a member on this forum, about moving up to a Vibe Tumbler. He also lives in the UK, and suggested i email the rockshed to find out a cost of shipping over a "Lot-O", as this is how he got his. It is not very easy to buy a lower priced Vibe here in the UK. I have sent emails to inquire about cost and shipping to the rockshed and other US sellers, but i have never had a reply. Does anyone know of a Vibe supplier either here in the UK or in the US that will be willing to help me. Also when i fill my rotary tumbler ( 3lb ) do i have to make the final weight after the rock, grit, water has been added to 3lbs. As i use a rubber 3lb barrel which weights more than the plastic barrel, this does not let me tumble much rock. Or have i been doing it wrong all this time!!!!

I also have a UV-18, but that will be much too big for a 3 lb. tumbler. It will take you a year just to get enough rock for a load.
The Lot-O is a better size for you. I added one to my cart at The Rock Shed, then selected United Kingdom in the country list and the shipping was $56.45. The tumbler itself is $170.
Hope that helps! Chuck

What is your voltage there? If 230 50 Hz most US tumblers cost more in that voltage (GyRoc 2.5 lb. lists for $180 in 115v and $200 in 230v). As far as your barrel loading question the 3 lb. is without the barrel. I never weigh my loads. I fill the rotary barrels to about 3/4 full including rock, grit, ceramic media and water. If the tumbler doesn't run it is time to service it. Vibe tumblers are pretty much universally designed to run full to the top.

I would definitely check the voltage to make sure you're OK. With Shawn at the RockShed, it's often better to get him on the phone for questions. HRC probably answered your question fairly accurately.
If the shipping is anything like here in the states, most of the cost is absorbed in the trip and extra weight doesn't add much to the shipping cost. It may be good to order a few things to take advantage of the shipping.

Hi John, Yes MM do a vibe but it is priced at £790. Way to dear. Thanks for the advice you have all given me. The standard household voltage here in the UK is 240v I will keep looking and contacting, heaven knows i might just add one to my cart and complete the checkout....... this will give me time to think up an excuse to give my wife when the postman calls and wants the extra Import Tax!!!!

Hi Dermot, I don't know why The Rock Shed won't answer your email but I have noticed that this has happened to others in the past as well. I would think that with all of the business we here at the RTH send them they would at least answer questions from potential buyers! An email costs nothing but time and if not answered may cost a sale and loss of a future customer as well!!!!! Although I know you are probably frustrated with them,I can only suggest what others have already and just put it in your "cart" and check the proper shipping, buy it and be done with it. Something that you may not know is that the rougher grits are not recommended in the Lot-O-Tumbler as it is VERY aggressive and using the coarser grits can and will lead to premature barrel wear. Although I have used the 60/90 grit in mine several times I now only use the unit (for the most part) after roughing my rocks in a rotary tumbler. The exception is when I want to try to keep the basic shape of rocks where I use a 120/220 grit for some light roughing. I can tell you that I have been using one of my Lot-O's for about 15 years and have nothing but praise for it.As a matter of fact.I liked it so much I bought another one a couple of years ago and it too works just fine. A short time ago there seemed to be a problem with the motors that came with them but as far as I know that problem has been resolved. The frame is guaranteed for life and if it fails in any way it will be repaired or replaced free of charge to you except for the cost of shipping. Here's mine,,,,,, Hope this helps a little and if not please just ask me and I will see what I can do for you! connrock

Thanks Connrock for the info. I will think hard about ordering one. I wanted to see if there was any way i could get the Lot-O sent as a gift. Or a reduced cost, this would make the sting out of the Import Tax. Who said that the Scots would do anything to save a £ !!!!!!!!!!! Dermot.

If I was a business owner, I would not put in writting anything about a scheme to skirt customs - even another country's. Too much risk.
I would consider getting someone here to buy one, use it to do a load, and then sell it to you used. It would be between you and them how the customs form was marked. But, I am not volunteering.

It is okay i have just sent my payment to Rockshed for a Lot-O tumbler and a spare bowl. I took note of what Randy said about having a bowl just for polish. And for all you IRS/Inland Rev followers i will pay the proper tax to the British Government. Awouch that hurt Dermot.
