Come on Curt...caves are naturally air-conditioned to about 54 degrees and it doesn't need petroleum to do it.

Pretty cool rig! There are some interesting technologies out there but all very expensive at present and man do we have a lot of cars, trucks, trains and planes to retool. Gal at the Raptor Center where I used to work had her truck converted to run on MacyD french fry oil. Smelled like a burger joint when running but the oil processing was messy, the oil was becoming competitive to get, and the truck broke down a lot. Retooling always seems to be the problem as big factories don't want to redesign new cars. That's why models change so little from year to year and new ones are infrequently introduced. I suppose all these new things are a good start and one has to start somewhere but at some point, someone has to really go into mass production and that seems to be the stumbling block. Folks who have to get to work regularly don't want to spend a fortune on experimental technology. They need something that will work reliably, be large enough to serve their needs, and be competitively priced. That's a tall order but when they come up with one, I'll sure buy it...Mel

I get the feeling that this sort of disaster is going to become more frequent as time passes and the squabble for the bottom of the barrel gets more intense. In 40 years time the planet is going to be in a mess. Well - civilisation will be in a mess. Seeing the BP boss on telly reminded me of the scene in the film "On Deadly Ground" where Micheal Caine is doing a tv advert for his oil drilling platform. Hes acting all nice and standing with a reigndeer - then when the cameras go off him - he lets loose saying the animal stinks etc. etc. Strange how its all ending up - id never have predicted all this mess reading the bible when I was a kid. :/

I think you're right about 40 years from now Mark. It may not be that long. As far as I can tell, we are on the brink. One misstep by one idiot and it's all over.
That's when the Anti-Christ will appear and tell everyone he can solve the whole mess. People will believe him and fall over him, calling him Lord and Savior. Then it'll all be over for good.
Hmmmm, that story sure seems familiar. Kinda deja vu like. Weird.

I don’t have forty years to see the shit hit the fan – hate to miss it. The sooner, the better.

Personally, I don't think he is the Anti-Christ. He lacks problem solving skills, and his favorable ratings are too low.
No, he's the anti capitalist guy who wants to turn this country socialist. Don

I'm with Rich, I'm fascinated by the times we live in. Kind of like the old Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times" I too want to live a bit longer to see what plays out *L*.....Mel

Nope Obama is not the Anti-Christ. He doesn't even come close. But he is setting things up nicely.

I can't help but notice that it looks like you really hate the Oil Industry par5. I have a question for you. Do you live in a cave, or teepee, use animal skins for clothes and own a horse for your transportation? Because if you do. I tip my hat to ya. But I have a funny feeling that the computer that you are using has had oil in it somewhere in the manufacturing process. Environmental accidents happen in all industries. Human error is the number one cause. I have never met a perfect person. Have you?

Let’s just say I despise the typical big corporation these days a damn sight more than some wetback in a beat-up Toyota with no insurance.
Curt – Make that a commie-lovin’ wetback.

*LOL* Yeah, you say that now Rich. When the wetback in the beat up Toyota sells your kid drugs, robs your house, shoots someone you know, t-bones your brand new car at some intersection, or runs over your kid while driving drunk with no license or skills, y'all might change yore story.....Mel
