I just obtained a lease agreement on a mountain top in the paint rock valley area of NE Alabama that has gemmy translucent carnelian as well as classic red/yellow agate. I lead trips to the area about once a month and it is $35 per person ( the majority of the money goes to the land owner). It almost impossible to get permission to access this area so I am excited about it. The next dig is this weekend , June 12. For details and lots of pictures you can check out this link : www.digforcrystals.com/alabamaagate.html

When is your next dig after the June 12th one? I can't make this one but want to get over there in the next month or two. I am only 100 miles away, just north of Nashville.

I will post dates for July after this weekend's dig is over with. I am juggling a lot of field trips to my other collecting areas , and also doing some gem shows so it is hard for me to plan too far ahead. I have a webpage that lists all of the upcoming events , and you can check it out and maybe bookmark it as I keep it fresh and entertaining : www.digforcrystals.com/Hogg_dig_dates.html Keith dug beside me in a spot that I recommended and he did find some super nice gem grade carnelian. I was hoping he would send me some pictures

Yeah, At some point this week I'll post some for sale. These will be a little price because not only are they rare for this side of the USA , we are under extreme conditions to get them. We have to literally climb the mountain on foot. It is 94 degrees and high humidity on top of it. This time of year the ticks are bad and keith ( KAP ) killed a monster rattle snake 2 weeks ago. Accessing the site is something anyone of average health can do , but it is not easy.
I gotta tell ya , I love this agate. The pictures prolly dont actually portray that this is gemmy glassy translucent agate with vivid colors and interesting inclusions.
Here is my haul from Friday/Saturday of this weekend:

Great color on this agate..I really like the red coloration...looks almost like the blood pigeon agate we have here in Utah...Maybe you like to trade a box?
Let me know,
Ozzy

Hi Ozzy, So far I have managed to make a living with rocks , either thru my guided trips or on ebay. But ebay has went from a high volume for me and a decent living , to , uh .......................no sales at all. So right now trading is out because i really need to sell some stuff. I will send you a pm shortly though................. I'll make a listing for one big good piece of this carnelian for sale later today.

For the nodules on my website linked above, the shipping is $3 for the small one, $4 for the medium one and $6 for the larger one.
If anyone wants to spring for a flat rate box I will throw in a couple of pounds of rose quartz free with the shipment.
This is light pink star rose quartz from the hogg mine. Some facet , cab and tumble grade. Properly oriented cabs do have a weak to moderate star.
All of the agate is money back gaurantee if you dont think it is gem quality. No griping on the star rose quartz because I am including that Free if anyone bumps the shipping to cover it with the purchase of the agate.
I am really not awfully anxious to sell the agate. I would rather take peope for a fee to the location so you can get a bucket full of it.

this is the medium flat rate box that is $10 or so. If you get a piece of the agate , just pay $10 in postage and it would ship in a medium flat rate box with a couple of pounds of star rose quartz.

I have a 7" saw so I am limited in what I can cut. That is some beautiful agate. I didn't see a price for it though. I am not looking in the right spot?
