I apologize for being inactive from the site recently, but I can assure you it was for a good cause. For the most part, I've been able to keep the tumblers going and rocks have been rolling 24/7. I have a back-log of finished rocks to shoot, and a fair amount of large rough Lakers too. I hope you don't mind if I post a few of them in the near future.
This post features Banded Iron Formation. The particular area where these rocks were collected, furnished much of the war machine iron of World War I & II.
The first half of the photos are classic Jaspelite with maybe a touch of quartz. The last half are a little bit more rare in that they are mostly quartz with a little-bit of Jasper/Hematite.
Most of these shots are tumbled slabs, with a few preforms and maybe one nodule. The first couple are the biggest I've ever tumbled. 2-1/2" x 4" for the first one... I had to stuff it in the Lot-O hole opening, but it polished up nice. I also gotta add... Hematite has got to be one of the hardest things I've ever had to photograph!
Anyways... Here's some classic Jaspelite. Often found in the Iron Range of Northern Minnesota or the U.P. of Michigan.
