;D Last week I went to S.E. Wyoming and dug for the below and am now trying to figgure how to clean and polish them. , Any suggestions? Ruby Iolite - have 5 chunks like this all about 10inches in size kayonite the kayonite again

To clean them, try a little white vinegar first. Any part that fizzes will be removed by acid. Ruby and Iolite should clean up with oxalic acid. Never heard of Kayonite. Are you sure that's not Kyanite ? It should clean up with acid too. Check first on a small piece or corner. Why do you want to polish these specimens ? Collectors prefer them cleaned, but not altered from their natural appearance. Don

thanks for the info. I was thinking that a slight shine would look good , however now it will stay as is on the vermiculite matrix.
The Iolite is in nodules in the quartz matrix and is plentiful .
I was incorrect in my spelling of the kyonite.
Does anyone know if the ruby matrix of vermiculite is a common occurrence , I seem to remember most pics I have seen are on a very white matrix?
