Long time no thread. Haven't been polishing much like I said I might but I did start my first batch of home brew!
In about 2 weeks I will have 5 gallons of Hefeweizen ready to go! (unfiltered wheat ale)
Fermenting beer sounds almost as delightful as tumbling rocks. (almost)

We tried making beer once. Then we were afraid to try it since we really didn't know what we were doing. Decided we needed to leave it up to the experts. ;D Now, once you get that first glass, you need to get in there and work with some rocks too. Make it a celebration! Fran

Baz, I thought you were frozen somewhere up there. You had enough snow this year to brew without water...........just natures own! LOL

Simon,
If you can bake cookies you can brew beer. It is that easy, just a little more pricey to get started.
Rockhobbit,
We just thawed out girl, it was snowing less than a month ago up here now it is nice, in the 80's. Hope you are enjoying Wickenburg still, it is one of our favorite places down south.

Hey Baz ! what ingredients are you using? Is it a kit or are you growing your own barley and hops? Do you have to distill your mash? Are you planning a ale or lager? all for beer cookies !! but once I ate some cookies that must of had some kind funny herb in them funny thing was: you wanted to keep eating more because of the munchies kind of an infinite regrass…. Ed,
I told the guys what I wanted to brew at the shop and they fixed up the ingredients. Sort of an unfiltered wheat ale like Widmer's Hefeweizen. This included the barely, hops, and malt. I'm getting ready to bottle today!
Never had "those" cookies but I have been looking around for a recipe for "that" kind of beer. They say it has a more energizing feeling when you drink it rather than the mellow of other ways of consumption.

Mmmmmmmm, sounds like a winner. Here are some basic guidelines-
Cannabis can be added to the beer at the same time the hops is added. THC is oil/alcohol soluble and some will dissolve in the brew as it ferments. Before adding it to the brew there are a few things you must do. Make sure the cannabis is dried until crispy, 1 hour in a 200 degree oven will suffice. This removes all water molecules from it thus activating the THC. Soak the cannabis in cold water for several hours. This removes some of the water soluble tars and chlorophyll that are associated with that "plant" taste. General rule is one ounce shade leaves per gallon brew. Higher quality plant, or flower tops, use less cannabis.
I would put a fresh, whole leaf in when bottling, for the wow factor.

Ha! First I have to finish my first batch. Then I might do a red or brown ale, then my secret experiment ale that I have dreaming up for the last few years, then maybe I will tackle High Brew!

Yeah the Schultz Fire put a hold on the bottling! I just did get all 48 bottles topped off today though. I think I'll have to come up with a fitting name for this batch. Fire Ale? Evacuation Wheat? Wait, the last one sounds very unappetizing on second thought!

Well Mrs. BAZ likes it better than I do, my buddy will be back from Alaska on Sunday so I will get his opinion as well. It is good, I would probably tweak it a bit as I learn more. Not the end all of beer, but I don't have to hold my nose when I drink it! Red or brown ale next I think.
Ed, they still make Schlitz. My wife was making Bratwurst a few years ago and at the checkout she realized she forgot to get cheap beer to cook it in. She asked the grocery bagger to run and get the cheapest six pack she could find and the girl brought back Schlitz! Christi only used a few from the sixer, weeks later I ran our of good beer and spied a couple Schlitz in the back of the fridge. Not wanting to drive to the market I had one, heck it wasn't that bad! Especially in a pinch.

BTW FINALLY got rain today. There was still smoke on the Peaks yesterday, almost a month from the beginning of the Schultz Fire. Choppers have been running up and down the down slope dropping straw bales from the air. This is an effort to stop flooding from the burn, our neighborhood is ironically now in danger of floods from the Monsoons!
