I am looking for someone to cut me a slab just over 1" thick and about 6" by 3". I want to make myself a walking cane with a rock handle so it needs to be something strong enough for that purpose and fairly easy to polish using wheels on a dremel since it's going to be hard to get to most of the surfaces on a cabbing machine. Other than that I'm not real picky about what type of rock, I'm just getting tired of my same old canes and want to make one a little more unique. Plus it's been a while since I bought any rocks so I'm about due.

Do you already have the rock you want slabbed, or are you looking for that also?

No I don't already have the rock I want slabbed, and I'm partial to greens, and plume and moss agates, but I'm not really to picky about what I make this one out of. I just want something to use besides my normal ole' canes.

Great Tony, I don't have any I'd trust to take the kind of pressure and force vectors a cane handle will generate. I'd be afraid it'd all fracture and etc... Nephrite Jade is about the only one I can think of that I'd trust, and I don't have any 1 inch thick for him....

Maybe along the lines of a T handle would be stronger?

How would you attach it to the cane shaft? I have seen knobs on canes, but look useless to me. I can't vision a handle attached. Must be old age. Ken

I'll check my shed tomorrow. I may have a chunk of nephrite I can cut a slab off of. Don

Ken, Since I absolutely must have my cane to get around, the joint between the handle and shaft have to be quite sturdy. I will attach the rock handle as I do with wood handles. I will have to drill the rock so that I can join the two pieces with a metal shaft and epoxy. The knob type handles are not really for use as an orthopedic device. Not really a lot of grip with a knob type handle.
