Donnie I know you live down here somewhere, but I'm staying for a week in a condo on the beach in Fort Myers Beach on whatever island this is on. Is there any good place to go to get Florida type stones? I can't go too far from here cause I have the wife and kids, and they're not into the whole rock thing, but would love to find something other than sand dollars and shells.
Anyway, any suggestions, please let me know!
Fort Myers Beach is on the Gulf Coast, south of Tampa, just north of Naples, so down on the southern end of the state, sort of. Absolutely beautiful beaches, I'll post some pics when I get a chance, but I don't know anything about rock hounding in Florida.
Hugs to you all!

Wish I'd brought my Honda Scooter down here with me! Need to get a small trailer for things just like this. 3.5 hours to Ft. Pierce from here so it's a no go on that. Darn it...

Hey you can always find interesting stuff on the beach !!! Just watch out for oil balls!! There is not a wide variety of rockhounding places from what I hear in Florida but I think there is alot of ROCK SHOPS ...might wanna do some searches on the internet for Florida rock shops !!!

From what I understand, there's not really too much available in southern Fla. I did find this site though: www.freewebs.com/flminerals/clubs.html I don't know how current it is but you could check it out. If you want to come to Key Largo I'll let you look at my rocks! You can take all the coral rock you want out of the yard (that is a joke, BTW)! Donnie

Actually, never mind. I just took a better look at that site. It's really old & doesn't look like there's been any activity on it in quite a while.

Looks like you're going to have to dry out a few days while you're in Florida Nothing til you get up towards Tampa!

dude, your like 3 hours south of me, and no is there no rocks south of Tampa, just stating a fact if you want limestone theres plenty and fossils too. Vero beach just N of you has awesome fossils and we find the bigger Megs there but we go out aways and dive, Tampa is about the furthest south in Fl for the coral and cherts, we have a beach and causeway here lined with chert and baybottom for erosion and other type rocks. There is coral here in my county cause I find it here but I dive for it on the rivers.
