Great adventure! Thanks for the ride. Those hills and mountains look grand. Looking forward to seeing some cabs. Thanks again.

Great pics of the location - and material. Pretty desolate, you must have brought enough water...

Yes, I had lots of water. I had a 5 gallon water tub full and an ice chest with Gator-Aid and other stuff. It was pretty hot that day but I have dealt with the heat for many years now....we get along....sometimes

I guess you could call it, " How to bake in Bakersfield, and survive ". Been there, done that. LOL. The heat out in the grasslands of S.D. this time of year is just about as bad. The humidity is high, and those old buzz tailed snakes are in a bad mood. Great pics. I've spent many a long, hot day around that area. Don

Nice pictures. I'm partial to that opalite, thanks for showing the material slabbed.

Thanks for posting the photos, Christopher. Looks like it was a great trip and an awesome haul. Very cool! Paul

Brings back memories of my pre Rock hounding days. Back in the 1980s I spent some time in China Lake around Inyokern. Working with the US Navy at what I believe was the largest Naval base in the world (in the middle of the mojave desert!). Loved the drive from LA airport through and past the oilwells of LA and the red rock canyons and passes. Every once in a while I'd take a small prop plane from LA, past the Air Force base, try to catch a sneak peak at the landing strip for the space shuttle, etc
Loved the area, but didn't take up rock hounding until 20 years later

Charlie some of the best material can be found on base. Can't get to it anymore but there are thunder eggs out there with precious opal in them!!! I seen one last November at the Opal Societies show. Amazing material.
